Anthias

Anthias, from the family Serranidae, make up the sub-family Anthiinae. They are one of the most common and prolific reef dwellers and are found in all of our oceans and seas. Most are omnivorous but need a steady diet of zooplankton to remain in good health. Anthias are vigorous eaters that display exciting shoaling behavior while feeding. They are hermaphrodites, born female, the largest female in the group will become male when the dominant male perishes. While most varieties prefer good water quality, they tend to be quite resistant to disease and injury.
