Blennies are a category of fish that contains many fish from different genus. They are all members of the Perciform family. While some blennies can reach up to five inches in length most will never grow past three inches. They are known for their elongated bodies, long dorsal fins and large eyes. Blennies tend to be bottom dwellers who feed on algae and small crustaceans as their primary food sources. Blennies have a tendency to become territorial towards other species of Blenny so generally only one type should be housed in one aquarium. In nature, Blennies usually make the reef their home. They are usually reef safe if provided a proper diet and adequate live rock and sand to sift through. A Blenny will often add movement and interest to the aquarium with their unique body shape and interesting behavior.
